Most would say one of the highlights of a Grand Canyon vacation is to experience professionally guided Grand Canyon raft tours and self-guided or “private” river trips. Exploring the Grand Canyon in the Colorado River is an experience unlike any other.
Theodore Roosevelt called it “the one great sight which every American should see.”

The Grand Canyon village is the only place where the railroad reaches the rim of the canyon. In the Village you will find the Historic District. It is the heart of development on the South Rim, predominantly built by the Santa Fe Railroad during the first half of the 20th Century. Since 1901, the Grand Canyon Railway has been taking people on an incredible trip into the heart of one of the seven natural wonders of the world. For those fortunate to have traveled on this iconic train, the Grand Canyon Railway is more than just a mode of transportation,
“It’s a trip back in time to what many consider the most awe-inspiring place on Earth.”

In addition to the Grand Canyon rafting and other outdoor activities, take a relaxing drive along the Desert East Rim View. Open all year, it’s a beautiful drive around to the east entrance of the park.

The North Rim, is closed during winter because of heavy snow. Accessible if you’re vacationing in the spring or summer, it is a worthwhile trip for those who enjoy the road less traveled.
